Aladdin the Musical

The Junior’s play: Aladdin

Last Monday night, Juniors and Teens went to the theater to see the Juniors play the Musical “ Aladdin”.

It was a workshop option for the Juniors, and they worked really hard for making it possible to present. But their hard work was rewarded because the audience really enjoyed it!

I already knew the story, but I found the musical very amusing.
It included dance routines, singing moments, funny lines, lovely moments, and imaginative costumes and props. The actors knew their lines and performed very well, and they seemed to have fun onstage!  Even with a few technical problems, in my opinion the play was great!

Congratulations to Lydia (the director) and her crew, and to all the people who helped. They did a really good job!

Uni-hoc
By Santiago Ardid

This will be my last post, it has been three amazing weeks telling you about workshops and the staff, so let's get started.

Last Sunday, in multi activity I played unihoc. This sport consist in a 10 minute warm up, 20 minutes of exercises, like passes and a 30 minute multi team match.

It was really nice, even the staff played with us. To everyone who follows this blog, I hope to see you next year.

Pool Party

By Arkady Lapshov
It was great evening for everyone. But I expected that we would have more time in pool and more time to play water polo or other water games. But despite all this it was fantastic.
At first everyone saw diving boards and wanted to show off, but it wasn’t great idea because they have hit themselves from this altitude. After that only the bravest stayed on it.
By the way, even I hit my lag and it still hurts. Somebody tried to do flip, but only Aldo got it. At that time others have been splashing and playing with a ball.
After all we rushed to dressing rooms and there were crowds and everyone wanted to take a shower or got dress.
I was so tired so I didn’t want anything, I just came into my room and felt asleep.
Next morning was difficult because every part of my body hurt. But I think I want such party again.

FOOTBALL

Multi Activity

By Koki Kikuchi

Most of you have known about football, football was born in England’s public school in 18th century.
In England, Radley College, we moved violently on the ground. It was first time for me to play British football. Surprisingly, there were slight differences between Japanese’s and England’s football. After the mini-game, we used our physical fitness very much, so we laid on the ground during the rest of time. But it was a lot of fun!

Shopping in London-Regent Street

Shopping in London

-

Regent Street

On Monday we went to London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom. After we had visited the Tower of London, which was very interesting, we went to Regent Street, one of the major shopping streets in London’s West End. Many stores of big brands but also less-known shops can be found here. It is a very long street and it would take much time to go in every shop. But you have to bring some money with you because in some stores you can’t buy anything below £100. Regent Street is a must-have-seen in London because going shopping there is fun.

SCOTTISH SOCIETY
By Can and Joey

On the first day we painted our own skirt. I couldn't do it very well because I am not that good at art. When we all finished the skirt we went outside to play some games. One of the games called savannah is a game were you have to throw a bat and let it land on the other side. On the second day we learnt about Scottish dance. At First we learnt without music and afterwards we  learnt with music. We learnt two dance styles, the first one involved dancing in a group with five people and turning around after eight times. The other dance had two groups of people, six people in one group and three people in the other, I enjoyed this dance the most.
ORIENTEERING

Orienteering is a sport that requires navigational skills using a map and compass to navigate from point to point in different and usually unfamiliar terrain, and normally moving at speed. It can be enjoyed as a walk in the woods or as a competitive sport.

In the last society I chose orienteering society because I have never done this sport before. When the activity leaders showed it to me, I was very impressed.  Everyone wore sport clothes and sport shoes. The activity leaders gave us maps, pens and papers and explained what to do. We have to run and navigate ourselves to different locations. There is a piece of paper in each location. When we found them we wrote on the paper to show we had been there. I think orienteering is a very good sport to learn new skills it is also healthy however it is exhausting at the same time.

 Hurling

Hurling is another cool sport which is offered for weekend societies at Radley College. It is an outdoor team game with a long tradition, it has been played for over 3,000 years. It is one of Ireland’s native Gaelic games. For playing Hurling you need a stick, made of wood, which is called a Hurley and a ball, called a slitter. The ball is similar to a baseball. It can be hit with the hurley or with your hand. For their safety the players (“hurlers”) wear a helmet. But there are some rules that you have to observe: you are not allowed to pick up the ball directly off the ground or to run more than four steps with the ball in your hand. The object of the game is to score as many goals as you can by hitting the slitter with the hurley. That is not always easy because there is a goalkeeper who guards the goal. Hurling is played all over the world but only Ireland has a national team.

Yesterday, we tried out Hurling with two teachers. In the beginning we did some basic exercises to practice our hand-eye coordination. Everyone had to flick up the ball with the hurley and catch it. Later we started to hit the ball in the air, it was not easy but it was great fun. I can only recommend choosing Hurling at weekend societies.

Radley's got talent

RADLEY'S GOT TALENT

Last Friday evening, Radley’s teens and Junior’s got together to take part in this special evening activity: Radley’s Got Talent.

As the name suggests, it is a talents show similar to Britain’s Got Talent, but with teens, juniors, staff and student hosts performing on stage! This contest was present by Cameron and Helena, our friendly Activity Leaders, and in the Judging panel we had Alex, Jason, Jess and Heather.
They would judge and comment the performances, and decide which of them would be in the Top 3 of the Junior and Teens.
At the beginning of the night, the audience was given papers to vote in their favourite contestant. We were all very excited to see what type of performances would be shown.
In the opening the teen’s ALs presented us with a musical number, singing and dancing at the song “reach for the stars” .
The first performance of the show was Sharon, performing “Clouds” at the piano and singing. Her performance was great!

After her, we impressive piano performances of very talented teens and juniors.
There were dance acts, and performances of original songs and choreographies. There were, as well, solo singing numbers, pairs and groups singing performances, student hosts performance, and many others more as good as them.
All of this performances were very good, some of them really funny, and all were greatly applauded by the enthusiastic audience.
Other performances were really original and included gymnastics and boxing teen-staff routines. Anastasya, from Russia, did an amazing gymnastic routine and it was, in our opinion, the most impressive.
To end the performances, we had a dance number with fluorescent lights, also really original, and it was a good way to end the first part of the show!
The decision of the judges took its time, because it was really hard to choose amongst those acts the 3 best.
Finnally there were nominated: Sharon (singing) , Zeynep and Yagmur (the cup song), and Nobuhiro (dance with lights) for teens; and Anastasya (gymnastics), Michael (piano) and Yihan Sun (piano) for juniors.

With the students vote, Yihan Sun won 2nd place, and Anastasya won the 1st place in junior section. Nobuhito won 2nd place, Zeynep and Jagmur won 1st place in teens!
The night ended with the MC Techno T rapping, and Junior staff singing and dancing !
Congratulations to the winners!

                                                                       Da trip to Oxford

On Friday, a group of kids were called to go to the donut after the evening activity. This got a lot of interest and everyone was intrigued by these news, thus all were awaiting the news of what was going to happen. Turns out, the students were going on an excursion with a Japanese partner. The other day, all of them were going to Oxford. They visited a museum and then had some free time to go around and do whatever they wanted.

They went to a place called the Ashmolean museum. It was a kind of a prehistoric place with information about ancient Egypt and other civilizations. They had a lot of fun there, as you will see from the interview!

M: Hello, good sir.

R: Hi, old chap!

M: So, I heard you were taking a stroll towards the town of Oxford! Splendid! What activities did you take part in while present in the city?

R: I went to the Ashmolean museum with my Japanese pair. We had a lot of fun, since there were a lot of interesting exhibits like mummies and such.

M: Oh, good, good! Now, young man, what was your favourite of that trip?

R: Definitely McDonalds, an exuberating experience. My soul was filled with joy as I took a bite out of that delicious double cheeseburger.

M: Why thank you, fellow peer. I shall include your helpful information in our daily blog, the Radblog blog.

So, that is all Mr Rati had to say. Thank you for answering my questions, you were of great help.

POOL PARTY
In Radley College, every Sunday there is a pool party. Every student likes it because it is fantastic and fun.

The pool is in the sport centre and it is very big. You can swim for 2 hours. There are diving boards to jump into the pool. One diving board is higher than the other. Some people really like them but some people are afraid. First of all every student must wear their swimsuit. And then we have to take a shower for some time before you can go to the pool.

At the entrance of the sport centre, there is a small shop. You can buy coke and sweets and also you can eat ice cream and drink water. They are free. If you are ill or you don’t want to swim, you can play basketball or badminton. These are also good.

MUGGLE QUIDDITCH

                                                       MUGGLE QUIDDITCH

by Arkady Lapshov

First of all I must tell you some main points of Quidditch.

In Quidditch we use 4 balls:
  Quaffle
  Two Bludgers
Snitch (in Muggle Quidditch we use someone as a Snitch)

Also we have players and positions.
  Seeker
  Beater
  Chaser
  Keeper

So, our game began on Quidditch pitch, but it wasn't like in Harry Potter's movies. We put hoops on trees and started.
I wanted to try all positions but we didn't have enough time to do it. So, I tried myself only as a chaser and beater. In my opinion, it is better to be beater than chaser, only because you can hit somebody.
We didn't have enough people to play with seekers and snitch.
By the way, our team lost. And it wasn't good because we lost with devastating score.
But the game was awesome.
